Boxmoor & District Angling Society was formed in May 1927 and in 1954 Westbrook Mere was purchased by the club . At this time the club limited its membership to 100. The next important step in the club's history was in June 1966 - when 18 year old trainee carpenter Ron Groombridge (today a club bailiff) landed a huge 40 lb 8 oz mirror carp, then the second largest Mirror ever caught anywhere in the UK, and at a time when huge carp were thought to be almost uncatchable. The angling world was then alight with tales of Mere Monsters and some of the old warrior mirrors still swimming in our waters are from that mid 1950s stocking. As the club grew and progressed it became a limited company in 1967, membership numbers grew, and today we have around 320 members. On this web site each of our five fisheries has its own web page and most have pictures; you can also keep up to date with the news on our news letter page and we have full details of our club matches on the match section page. We have a pictures page where you can see our latest captures and the answers to the most frequently asked questions of our bailiffs and club management on the By-laws page. Our fisheries are very well looked after and it should be noted that nearly all of the swims on our lake fisheries have access for disabled anglers with or without wheelchairs.
